November 2, 2009

I met Christine at the 2007 Biewer Specialty in Reading, Pa.  She was so friendly and informative that I quickly learned a lot about the Biewer breed.   I also learned that we shared the same philosophy about raising dogs.  For example, Christine has made a commitment to breeding to standard and for betterment of the breed.  Also, she is very careful to breed puppies that are sound in both temperament and health.    I think though, that what impressed me the most about Christine's breeding program was the fact that she breed to German standards of quality.  Germany has one of, if not the most strict dog breeding policy in the world.   Every dog breeding is a very structured, controlled  affair…no back yard breeding for profit there!!!

In September of 2008, one of Christine's puppies became a member of my family.  I fell in love with Hershey Kiss when we first met at the 2007 Specialty.  Back then he was a fluffy bundle of love.  Since then Hershey has changed a lot in looks, growing into an absolutely magnificent example of the Biewer Breed.  He is an International Champion with 4 Best of Breeds, one Group 1 and three Group2’s.

These wins occurred during his first weekend out on the International Dog Show circuit against multiple AKC Champions.

In closing, I must say that what hasn’t changed about Hershey is his extraordinary personality and temperament.  Hershey truly is a “Golden Dog”.  He loves everyone and is always the first of my “pack” to try to start a game of chase or ball.  He is the type of dog who can change the mind of even the most ardent non dog person, (hard to believe non dog people exist).  I have seen him engaged in this activity on more than one occasion.  This is the personality the Christine breeds for, and it is truly a wonderful experience to be owned by one of her Biewers.  The old adage “you get what you pay for“ is really not fair here.  I and my family have gotten from Hershey so much more than what we paid.  I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone to grab the rare opportunity of bringing a Candyland Biewer home!!

It was love at first sight from the moment we met our little Sugarbabies Sasha. Her expressive sweet face and loving nature endeared her to us immediately. She loves being cuddled and will be on a lap anytime you pat your knee and say “come”. But she isn’t just a lap dog.  She has boundless energy and loves her “walkies”, her play time fetching her toys, and she especially enjoys running with other dogs when we visit friends with fenced-in areas. We continue to be astounded at how fast her little legs can go. She loves meeting people. On our daily walks when someone approaches, her tail wags, then she sits down and waits for them to come and say hello. Because of her unusual coloring she elicits many questions. “What is she?” is the most common question as they try to guess her breed. A woman on a sidewalk in Asheville recently asked, “What kind of designer dog is she?”  I always quickly respond she is a Biewer Yorkie, or if they can’t remember that, then a “German Yorkie”.  If I have the time I tell them about the Biewer’s background.  She is very healthy (a testament of good breeding) and has only been to the vet’s for routine shots and her annual exam. Because of our extremely hot summer, and shoulder surgery that limited my grooming ability, we cut her hair a few months ago.  I plan to allow her coat to grow long over the winter. One thing that has never been cut is her tail. It is her “crowning feature” and is constantly wagging.

Beverly & Jim

Beverly first met 14 month old Canoli, a CandyLand Biewer, when she visited her sister Peggy and her husband Bob in Virginia. Peggy introduced Beverly to Christine Linnemeyer, the owner of Canoli and his mother.

We had heard good things about Canoli as Peggy had done some dog sitting for him and his family from time to time. Beverly immediately fell in love with little Canoli with his sweet face and the many, many kisses that he loves to give. Christine and Dave were looking for a good home for him at the time of her visit. Adoption was discussed with them and Beverly was impressed with the concern they had with questions about his well being if we were to adopt him and how he would be raised. She could tell that Christine was definitely a “dog lover” who cared very much for her dogs and wanted to make sure that Canoli would be going to a good home.

We decided that Canoli would become a member of our family in Vermont, and Canoli arrived at our home on October 26, 2009 after a long 10 hour car trip with Peggy and Bob.

After his arrival Canoli greeted each person that was here as if to say “hello”. He is a very healthy and friendly little fellow and has adapted to his new environment very well. He is very inquisitive, intelligent, and has a very pleasant personality.

He loves to lie on your lap and have “belly rubs” and to cuddle. He plays with his toys and keeps himself amused if we are busy. Canoli loves to run in his fenced-in yard and looks forward to each morning for his walk with Jim and meeting new people and other dogs along the way. He is a bundle of “energy” and we love him very much in return.
